Message from the President I would like to thank the committee for
their vote of confidence – taking on the BCCT president role throws up
many challenges for me - especially ‘stepping into the shoes’ of our
outgoing president. The decision to elect 2 Vice Presidents (instead of
1) allows the committee to have continuing access to their expertise
/knowledge/skills and contextual experiences– making the committee a
more cohesive body and better able to draw attention to our changing
concerns. Ensuring an even louder ‘voice’ so that our Government
representative (people we have elected) and
administrators at all levels ‘hear us’ keeps community communication
open and transparent and continue to act upon what the community
reasonably and fairly identifies as important concerns in a
‘non-paternalistic’ fashion.
No matter what interest group one is affiliated with – transition of
office bearers (especially long-term office holders) always brings-up
the ‘unknown’ and represents ‘a work in progress’. My BCCT interest and
involvement is founded from living for 25 years in the area, witnessing
both positive and negative changes to our community and sometimes being
frustrated by the lack of community outrage at the decision-making
‘process’ in place at the time. I believe that the Trust (as well as
other interest groups) encourage an ongoing community active, proactive
and novel ‘voice’, which celebrates those changes that enrich our
community and challenge those changes and decisions that threaten our
community, society and planet.
Community ‘discourse’ (even an irritating opinion) is an essential
element of any robust democratic system. The point of having citizen
involvement (‘voice’) is a powerful social mechanism ensuring that
decision-makers and change agents (elected or otherwise) are made aware
of their legal, contractual and ethical obligations to serve the people they represent. I hold no entrenched political affiliation or ambitions to any party philosophy or line. My agenda holds that whoever
is in a position of power must be visible and accountable to the
electorate. I believe in a Government that operates within a framework
of Transparency, Accountability - and one that mandates- Natural Justice
and Procedural Fairness as its bases.
No doubt - as members of the Committee settle into their particular role
my individual style of getting things heard and followed through will
emerge over time. Hopefully it will happen in a COVID free environment
where we once again can meet face-to-face and discuss community issues
and concerns. Please feel free to contact me through the Trust if you
have relevant constructive comments to offer about the expectations and
future of the Trust.
Beecroft Cheltenham Civic Trust AGM The Civic Trust held its AGM on March 15th.at the Beecroft Presbyterian Church Hall.

Ross Walker chaired the AGM and presented
the Trust's financial reports, annual report, development report and
President's report. The minutes of the previous AGM were presented and
accepted.

At the first committee meeting held on March 29th two additional members were accepted, Harkirat Dhindsa and Tim Abrams.

Clean Up Australia 2021 A
huge thank you to all the volunteers that participated in Clean Up
Australia 2021. Another successful day with 2 cubic metres of
rubbish collected.
The Beecroft Scouts were once again very welcome as was Julian Leeser
MP Member for Berowra

Draft public domain guidelines The
draft public domain guidelines is currently on exhibition. The Beecroft
shopping precinct and village gardens are included as one of five study
areas. The community’s views are important, so please read the document
and if you have an opinion, make a submission. The Trust has
already submitted comments. Click here to access Council’s web page and the draft guidelines.
A further message from Council to the Trust is reproduced below.
The next step in this consultation process is for us to understand what
sites are valuable to you as a community, that they may be flagged and
further researched as items of potential archaeological or landscape
significance. I you have any potential heritage items in mind, we would
appreciate you telling us about them!
If you know of a place that should be considered as a potential heritage
item, do search the Shire’s heritage register through the above links
as it may already be listed. If you find that the place you are
interested in is already listed, please take some time to look over the
inventory sheet, as you may have some additional information that we can
use as we review existing heritage listings.
If you would like to nominate a place as a potential heritage item,
please use the attached MS Word forms that we have created to help
prompt some of the stories and significance values we are interested in
understanding. You can return the completed forms, along with any other
accompanying information and resources that you would like to share, to projects@extent.com.au by Tuesday 6th April 2021. If
you need more time to gather information, please reach out to the
Council project team (Alison, Katherine or Laura) to make alternate
